The areas you should be concentrating on:
This is where and what you are looking for:
You may find spotting, eggs or actual bed bugs. They are shaped liked a lentil or apple seed. They hide in cracks and crevices. Most people think that just by lifting up the sheets or blankets you will see them. This is rarely the case. You must lift the mattress, flip over the actual base or box spring and inspect all cracks and crevices around and in the bed.
Actual bed bugs trying to hide in the mattress seams. Very, very common.
Below is the life cycle of bed bugs:
Before Local Pest Control comes to your place, we will send you a preparation sheet
(see below) that outlines what you need to do before we come and do a treatment. As mentioned bed bugs are one of the most difficult to eradicate, hence it takes effort from all sides to get rid of them. Also, to solve bed bugs as a one treatment application is never going to fix the problem as the cycle from egg to larva to adult is not broken (see photo). Not only the area infected must be cleaned and treated, but the adjoining areas must be also. This is where a lot of treatments are unsuccessful; when bed bugs are treated they simply crawl within the walls or to another room until it is safe to come back or infest the adjoining room permanently. For this reason, all rooms and adjoining units must also be treated.
At Local Pest Control we make sure that all rooms are treated so the life cycle of the bed bug is ended-for good!
The traditional treatment requires two visits to break the bed bug reproduction cycle. Not only the area infected must be cleaned and treated, but the adjoining areas must be also. This is where a lot of treatments are unsuccessful; when bed bugs are treated they simply crawl within the walls or to another room until it is safe to come back or infest the adjoining room permanently. For this reason, all rooms and adjoining units must be treated.

Bed Bug Removal
Local Pest Control provides full-service furniture and bedding removal before treatment. Please see Bed Bug Removal for more details.
Local Pest Control uses the BioSensory NightWatch Bed Bug trap to detect and monitor infestations. The trap uses the pests’ feeding instincts – attraction to C02 and other chemicals exhaled while breathing plus the warmth of human blood – to draw them in. If you suspect you have Bed Bugs this is a great tool to identify the issue, our techs place this monitor in a Bed Bug “Hot Zone” for 5 days at a cost of $145.00 and upon inspection recommend whether you require a full Bed Bug treatment.
We heat your entire home/apartment including the inside of the furniture, walls, even under the baseboards and the carpets.
We then bring the temperature up to the thermal death point of the bed bugs killing off any bugs and eggs. We do this slowly so that your furniture and its structure will not be harmed in the process.
The treatment takes all day (6-8 hours or longer) and industrial heaters and fans are used to distribute the air and force the heat into all areas that bugs may be hiding, including cracks and crevices.
This environmentally-friendly treatment eliminates the need for chemicals, disposal of furniture and additional treatments. Please download the PDF sheet, below, for the heat treatment preparation guidelines.
